This is going to be a short one today but I am going to talk about a comment made by someone in our youth group probably 5-10 years ago now that has stayed with me ever since. It was on these verses:
“Therefore he said unto Judah, let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the Lord our God, we have sought Him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered”. ~2 Chronicles 14:7
Their comment was that when times are quiet and things are going well in our lives, we should be building up our defences (spiritually) for the hard times.
It is so easy when things are going well in our lives to go on our merry way, almost to the point where we forget God and our need for Him. Really we should be using these times for building up our walls – reading and studying the bible, listening to bible classes, strengthening our vision of the kingdom, serving others. That way, we have the strength we need and a firm foundation to fall back on when things get hard.
How do you build up your walls when things are going well? I would love to know!
